Simulation dataset on fenestration and shading device variation on ventilation and energy performance of an office in cooling and heating seasons

Listed in Teesside University Research Data Repository

Description

This dataset describes the simulation data generated from the variation of fenestration and shading devices (F&SD) on energy and ventilation performance of an office unit across heating and cooling seasons. This dataset serves as a support of the published paper: “Investigations into Impacts of Fenestration and Shading Variation on Ventilation and Energy Performance of an Office in Cooling and Heating Seasons which can be accessed via: doi.org/10.1016/j.solener.2024.112646.

The simulation of the office was carried out using the free-running physical model of International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Building Energy Simulation Test (BESTEST) Case 600FF and Shanghai ewp format weather file from the EnergyPlus website. The considered F&SD configurations include window-facing orientation (WFO), window-to-wall ratio (WWR), shading device types (SDT), number of shadings (SDN), shading device depths (SDD), and shading device tilt angle (SDA).

WWR variations were achieved by changing the window height (WDH) to floor ratio. The outputs include the building environmental performance (BP) parameters [i.e. zone mean radiant temperature (°C), zone ventilation volume density flowrate (m3/s), daylight illuminance at reference point (lux), and annual glare hours (hrs)] and the energy demand (ED) in kWh/m2 performance related parameters [free-running cooling energy demands (CED), heating energy demands (HED), total energy demands (TED=CED+HED), and electricity energy use (EEU, lighting and equipment energy use)].
