The agency created and used these files to analyze and report on coal shipments in the United States.

Description

This series includes information from Energy Information Administration Form 6 on the distribution (shipments in tons) of coal by coal-producing district of origin, consumer end-use category, state of destination and method of transportation for companies that owned or purchased and distributed in excess of 50,000 tons of coal during a year.

The companies include coal mining companies, wh olesale coal dealers, and retail coal dealers. Destinations are domestic (by state) or foreign (the total amount of coal shipped for export). There are 12 record types: receipts, consumption, stocks, production-related, demonstrated reserve base, recoverable reserves, distribution, imports, exports, gross national product, generation, and sulfur content.

Specific data includes a consumer code, Standard Industrial Classification code, data type and status, reporting time, geographic codes, coal type, mine type, transaction code, shipment code, data source code, bed thickness code, and reported value.
