Survey of Aging Veterans

The agency designed this survey to provide information needed to plan for the demands of U.S. veterans for medical and pension benefits mainly during the decade following the survey.

Description

The data were used to make estimates of future demands and future support needed for the rapidly expanding older veterans population. This survey contains data on the social, economic and health status of non-institutionalized veterans aged 55 and older, their patterns of utilization of Veteran Administration (VA) facilities and benefits, and future expectations regarding use of VA facilities, benefits and services.

The information includes age, marital status, veteran status, employment, medical conditions, functional status, activity level, health and insurance coverage, financial status, use of health care services, use of VA benefits and services, future expectation regarding such things as personal health, finances, and need for support services, and experience with and attitudes toward VA programs and benefits. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
