The 1970s and 1980s proved pivotal decades for women's status in the workforce in the Republic of Ireland (ROI), Northern Ireland (NI) and Great Britain (GB).
Description
With the rise of the women's movement in Europe and the US, alongside calls for change, the desire of the ROI and UK governments to access the benefits of European Community membership, where member states were required to enact equal pay legislation, gave rise to the introduction of foundational employment equality legislation.
This study explores the path taken by each jurisdiction in its journey towards implementing employment equality legislation and examines a collection of employment equality cases taken by women workers in all three jurisdictions as they fought to claim their rights under the legislation.<br><br><i>Thesis is embargoed until 31 December 2029.</i>
