Some Results of Bird Ringing in Ukraine during 2006–2026

It contains records for 72,365 individually ringed birds.The records originate from 20 administrative regions of Ukraine, excluding the Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Ternopil, and Zakarpattia regions. The highest numbers of ringed birds were recorded in the Odesa (28,834), Crimea (11,638), Mykolaiv (10,601), and Kyiv (10,441) regions.The dataset covers 189 bird species, ranging from common and abundant species to those of high national or international conservation concern, as well as rare vagrant species.

Birds were primarily captured using mist nets, although many were ringed at nests or in breeding colonies.Most records were obtained from birds ringed during migration, reflecting the predominance of migration studies in the Ukrainian ringing programme. Birds ringed during the breeding season constitute the second largest group, followed by those ringed during the wintering period.The dataset provides valuable information on the spatial and temporal distribution of bird ringing effort in Ukraine and constitutes an important resource for studies of bird migration, demography, population ecology, and conservation.
