Porcine astrovirus induces endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated autophagic degradation of MAVS to inhibit type I interferon productionData

Listed in ScienceDB

Consequently, endoplasmic reticulum stress acts as the upstream trigger, the unfolded protein response serves as the immediate adaptive regulation, and autophagy emerges as the downstream rescue mechanism when the unfolded protein response is inadequate in alleviating the stress.

Description

Nevertheless, viruses have evolved sophisticated strategies to manipulate these cellular stress responses to their advantage. Specifically, certain viruses induce autophagy through ER stress to degrade key components of the host's antiviral innate immune system, thereby facilitating immune evasion(13, 14).

Currently, the mechanisms by which porcine astrovirus (PAstV) orchestrates ER stress and autophagy to enhance its replication remain to be elucidated.
