Energetic cost of weight shifting and asymmetric weight-bearing during standing in humans

Twenty healthy adults completed three 3-minute standing conditions: - Baseline (B): static symmetric standing - Shifting (S): symmetric standing with periodic lateral weight shifts - Asymmetric (A): asymmetric standing with periodic switching of the supporting leg.

Energy expenditure was measured with indirect calorimetry; weight-bearing asymmetry, lean angle, center-of-pressure distance, acromion-marker velocity, and bilateral soleus and medial gastrocnemius EMG were derived from synchronized motion capture, force plate, and surface electromyography. The repository contains: - (i) per-participant, per-condition average tables (.csv) of all reported metrics; - (ii) synchronized time-series data (Measurements.mat) comprising labelled motion-capture marker kinematics, ground reaction forces and center of pressure, raw bilateral soleus/medial gastrocnemius EMG, and breath-by-breath metabolic-analyzer data; and - (iii) MATLAB scripts for data processing, metric computation, and figure generation, together with the JASP statistics files.
