Hepatic and Brain Spatial Gene Expression Changes in Intragastric Alcohol Fed APP/PS1 Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Model

Listed in NCBI GEO

Chronic alcohol consumption is an emerging risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), potentially through liver–brain crosstalk.

Description

To assess how alcohol-induced liver injury influences AD-related brain changes, spatial transcriptomic profiling was performed in 32-week-old male APP/PS1 mice after 5 weeks of intragastric ethanol or control diet. Using the NanoString GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler, this study profiled plaque-bearing and plaque-free hippocampal and cortical regions of interest, along with periportal and perivenous liver regions.

Differential gene expression and pathway analyses identified shared and tissue-specific molecular changes, as well as candidate therapeutic targets that may link alcohol-related liver injury to AD-associated brain pathology.
