Importance of Golgi homeostasis in hair quality: Grasp55 is crucial for cuticle formation

Listed in NCBI GEO

The Golgi apparatus is a central hub for protein processing, trafficking, and secretion, and its integrity is essential for epidermal barrier function and hair follicle homeostasis.

Description

While Golgi dysfunction has been linked to skin and hair abnormalities, its direct contribution to hair shaft formation remains unclear. Here, we investigated the role of Golgi reassembly stacking protein 55 (GRASP55), a structural factor critical for cisternal stacking and membrane tethering, in hair biology.

We generated Grasp55 knockout (KO) mice and analyzed the ultrastructure and mechanical properties of their hair shafts.
