DNA methylation profiling of PBMCs from 42 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients and 30 controls using the Illumina MethylationEPIC array

Listed in NCBI GEO

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) constitutes over 80% of esophageal cancer cases in China, with advanced-stage patients exhibiting a 5-year survival rate below 30%.

Description

Early diagnosis is critical for improving survival outcomes. Current clinical diagnostic methods present significant limitations.

This study aimed to identify potential non-invasive biomarkers through epigenomic analysis of the DNA methylome in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from ESCC patients. Using the Infinium MethylationEPIC (935K) array, we profiled genome-wide DNA methylation patterns in PBMCs from 42 ESCC patients and 30 controls. We discovered an episignature of 742 differentially methylated CpGs (DMCs) that effectively discriminates ESCC patients from controls.
