Hemistasia phaeocysticola

Listed in ZivaHub

Hemistasia phaeocysticola is a single-celled organism that preys on diatoms and dinoflagellates.

Description

It belongs to the diplonemid group, a clade related to the kinetoplastids (Trypanosoma and other related organisms). Being closely related, H. phaeocysticola also has a tentative, large, reticulated mitochondria, but with several kDNA clumps acting as kinetoplasts (instead of a single large kinetoplast, which is the "standard").

Another distinctive feature is a large digestive vacuole located at the rear of the cell.

Fun files, huh? They're free to use, CC BY-SA 4.0, attribution is required (DOTkamina 2026) and they're not for commercial purposes (anyway, you could ask me; my inbox is empty and full of spam from Nigerian princes). You can find more secrets, information about these resources, and the bibliography I used to create them (because I had to get the information from somewhere, right?) on the blog.
