Dataset on Academic Self-Efficacy and Attitudes Toward Plagiarism Among Indonesian University Students

Listed in Teesside University Research Data Repository

Description

This dataset provides item-level survey responses examining Academic Self-Efficacy (ASE) and Attitudes Toward Plagiarism (ATP) among 201 active undergraduate students (aged 19–26) recruited via convenience sampling from universities across the Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) region of Indonesia—namely Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi—who reported actively using artificial intelligence-based technologies in their academic activities.

Data were collected through an online questionnaire administered via Google Forms, comprising 42 items drawn from two instruments: a 25-item Academic Self-Efficacy scale rated on a 7-point Likert format, adapted from Sagone and De Caroli (2014) and organized into four dimensions (Self-Engagement, Self-Oriented Decision-Making, Other-Oriented problem solving, and Interpersonal Climate); and a 17-item Attitudes Toward Plagiarism scale rated on a 5-point Likert format, adapted from Mavrinac et al. (2010) and organized into three dimensions (Plagiarism Trigger, Rationalising Plagiarism, and Perception of Plagiarism Severity).

Both instruments were forward-translated into Indonesian prior to administration. After screening for invalid response patterns, 201 valid responses were retained for analysis. The dataset includes raw and processed item-level responses in Comma-Separated Values (CSV) format, a compiled Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) file, and a Jamovi (.omv) analysis file, together with descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations, skewness, and kurtosis) and a full psychometric evaluation—comprising measurement model testing (factor loadings, Cronbach's alpha, composite reliability, and average variance extracted) and structural model testing (goodness-of-fit indices and path coefficients)—conducted using Structural Equation Modeling with Diagonally Weighted Least Squares estimation in Jamovi version 2.7.

This dataset offers a reusable resource for researchers, educators, and policymakers investigating the psychological antecedents of academic dishonesty, artificial intelligence literacy, and academic integrity policy in higher education, and it supports secondary analyses, cross-cultural replication, and further psychometric validation of the ASE and ATP instruments in Indonesian and comparable educational settings.
