Intestinal T-bet+ plasmablasts mediate epithelial barrier dysfunction and inflammatory bowel disease

Listed in NCBI GEO

Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are complex diseases characterized by epithelial barrier dysfunction and intestinal inflammation.

Description

While B cells have historically received limited attention in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research, recent studies have highlighted the accumulation of IgG+ cells in inflamed tissues. In this study, we confirmed the enrichment of IgG⁺ antibody-secreting cells in resected lesions from CD patients and identified a distinct CD11c⁺ population localized exclusively to lesional tissue.

These cells resembled age-associated B cells (ABCs), a proinflammatory population implicated in other autoimmune diseases.
