The role of cardiac fibrosis and fibroblast activation in amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis

Listed in NCBI GEO

Recent studies indicate that interactions between collagen and amyloid fibrils may influence disease progression in cardiac AL amyloidosis.

Description

However, the precise pathophysiological mechanisms underlying fibrosis remain largely unexplored. Here, we perform bulk RNA sequcencing of the heart from patients with cardiac AL amyloidosis and identify the upregulation of fibroblast activation genes.

This upregulation of extracellular molecules suggests the involvement of cardiac fibrosis mechanisms beyond amyloid fibril deposition in the heart of patients with cardiac AL amyloidosis.
