Magic Rings: Music

Sight and audiation are quite different domains and not everyone can easily translate one to the other.</p><p dir="ltr">Ukulele groups notoriously carry with them the Circle of 5ths and sometimes the small key-transposing slide rules, but the Music Rosetta Stone is the first slide rule to translate all levels from raw sound in Hz through the types of notation used in schools:</p><ul><li>· Hz – for absolute pitch frequency</li><li>· Notation – to capture and share music in print</li><li>· Tablature – to depict finger positions</li><li>· Alphabet – for chords</li><li>· ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</li><li>· Roman numerals (I II II IV V VI VII) – for Scale Degrees</li><li>· Solfege (Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do) – for their Sounds</li></ul><p dir="ltr">The <i>Stone</i> solves for any of these by knowing another.

We might hum a tune in Solfege, match that to a piano or guitar sound, look up the corresponding Roman numerals and derive its Progression. Conversely, we might start with a common pop Progression in Roman numerals such as I-V-vi-IV, look up its corresponding Solfege, hum it, then transpose it to a different key by sliding the Alphabet row.</p>
